86 | Lake Thingvellir with volcano Mount Hekla in background. Mt Hekla is mostly snow covered. Average time between eruptions is about 50 years but it has been erupting much more frequently 'lately'. Last eruption was in 2000. There have been eruptions in 1948, 1971, 1981, and 1990 also and there is some evidence that it is ready to erupt again! Past eruptions have been sudden with very little warning. | |
